Few months ago, we have shared an interactive commute map in Bay Area, Los Angeles, and New York regions, and now we find another commute map for Chicago. This map shows various transportation mode people use for commute in each Chicago’s neighborhood.
The map is created by Shaun Jacobsen, a writer of the Transitized blog and a freelances of Streetblog, last week for showing the primary commute mode foe each census tract using data from 2008-2012, and also displays how many households do not own a car that map users may be surprised by the fact that there is amount of households in Chicago don’t own a car.

This map provides rich-information for various commute mode with detailed statistic. However, the category legend for selecting heat map layer of individual commute mode is hidden that map users may find difficult to figure it out. Category legend and map legends are always playing important role in indication that it should be displayed in the default map view.

The Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation cooperates with the Chicago Park District to provide 23 park districts for Christmas tree recycling, starting from Jan 4 to Jan 18, 2014.
Please note that tree decorations, tree lights, wreaths, or garland are not valid for recycle in the above marked locations. Residents have to remove ornaments, lights, tinsel, and stands before dropping off the trees for recycling. Limited amounts of free mulch will be available for residents to collect from all tree drop-off locations starting from January 10.
It is always better to recycle the Christmas tree rather than disposing it into landfills, and let’s continue the Christmas blessings to the new year.
Last week, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced the city would be stepping up traffic enforcement in certain areas with the use of speed cameras. Above is an interactive Google Map that pinpointing all speed cameras in Chicago.
Red pins indicate cameras that already up and is taking pictures; purple pins indicate cameras that would be activated by the end of September; blue pins indicate cameras that are planning to be activated by the end of 2013. Mouse click pins on the marker list or the custom Google Map, detailed information (e.g. address, current status). Click the above map image for the details in the interactive Chicago map.
